The Grand Rapids Home Show is writing about building and remodeling in West Michigan. What projects actually cost, why two bids on identical work land far apart, what a contract does and does not protect, and what the people doing this work have learned the expensive way.
It is not a home improvement tips site. Nothing here explains how to caulk a tub. Homeowners in this market are handling real money and real decisions, and the useful version of this is what they would overhear sitting in the truck on the way back from a walkthrough.
Anyone in West Michigan who is about to spend serious money on their house, or who works in the trades that get that money. Both are after the same thing from opposite directions — what separates a project that lands from one that goes sideways.
This was founded in 2026 by Derek Anderson, a licensed residential builder and remodeler in Grand Rapids. He writes it. He also bids the work described in it, which is stated on the page rather than buried in a footer. The editorial standards page spells out how that is handled.
It is published by Grand Rapids Home Show Media, LLC, a separate company from Derek's construction businesses.
Subjects get covered because they are worth covering, not because somebody bought the coverage. There is no paid placement, no sponsored writing, no fee to be included, and no arrangement where a company gets to approve a piece before it publishes.
New writing goes up when it is ready. There is no weekly quota, and nothing gets published to fill a slot.
Suggestions are welcome, including from firms that compete directly with Amber Valley Construction. Send it over.
